Anti-Money Laundering
Our Commitment
Artivanta is a curated online art gallery operated by Veltrio Limited, a company registered in the Republic of Cyprus. As an art market participant operating within the European Union, Veltrio Limited is subject to the EU Fifth Anti-Money Laundering Directive (5AMLD) as implemented under Cypriot law — specifically the Prevention and Suppression of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Law of 2007 (as amended).
Artivanta is committed to preventing money laundering, terrorist financing, and any financial crime through its platform. We maintain controls proportionate to our business model and risk profile, and we cooperate fully with competent authorities.
Who This Policy Applies To
This policy applies to all users of the Artivanta platform, including:
- Collectors purchasing artworks through the platform
- Artists whose work is featured for sale
- Curators and institutional partners
- Any third party transacting through www.artivanta.com
Risk-Based Approach
Artivanta applies a risk-based approach to AML compliance in accordance with 5AMLD requirements for art market participants. Our risk assessment takes into account:
- The nature of artworks sold — original works by verified artists
- Transaction values — with enhanced scrutiny applied to high-value transactions
- Geographic exposure — collector and artist locations relative to high-risk jurisdictions
- Payment methods — all transactions are processed exclusively through regulated, traceable payment channels
Our risk controls are reviewed periodically and updated to reflect changes in our business, applicable law, and guidance from competent authorities.
Customer Due Diligence (KYC)
Artivanta applies customer due diligence (CDD) measures appropriate to the risk presented by each transaction and customer relationship:
- Standard CDD: All registered users are required to provide verifiable identity information at the point of account creation or checkout.
- Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD): For high-value transactions — particularly those at or above €10,000 — Artivanta and/or its payment provider Payabl. may request additional identity verification, including government-issued identification documents, proof of address, and source of funds declarations.
- Ongoing monitoring: Customer relationships and transaction patterns are monitored on an ongoing basis for unusual or suspicious activity.
Accepted Payment Methods
Artivanta accepts payments exclusively through secure, regulated, and fully traceable electronic payment methods. Cash payments and anonymous payment instruments are not accepted under any circumstances.
All payments are processed by Payabl., a licensed payment service provider operating under applicable EU payment regulations. Payabl. applies its own transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and AML controls as part of the payment process.
Artwork Verification
As an art market participant under 5AMLD, Artivanta applies verification measures to all artworks featured on the platform:
- All artists are reviewed by Artivanta's curatorial team before their work is accepted into the collection
- Artworks are verified for authenticity and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) and provenance documentation where available
- Artivanta does not knowingly facilitate the sale of stolen, illegally exported, or culturally protected artworks
- Collectors are responsible for verifying import regulations applicable in their jurisdiction, particularly for vintage pieces subject to CITES or cultural property laws
Suspicious Activity Reporting
Artivanta maintains documented procedures for identifying, escalating, and reporting suspicious transactions or activity. Where there are reasonable grounds to suspect money laundering or terrorist financing, Artivanta will:
- Refrain from completing the transaction pending further review
- File a Suspicious Transaction Report (STR) with the Cyprus Financial Intelligence Unit (MOKAS) as required by law
- Cooperate fully with law enforcement and competent regulatory authorities
Staff involved in compliance functions receive appropriate training to identify red flags and escalate concerns in accordance with this policy.
Record Keeping
In accordance with 5AMLD and Cypriot AML legislation, Artivanta retains AML-related records — including customer due diligence documentation, transaction records, and identity verification documents — for a minimum of five years following the completion of a transaction or the end of a business relationship.
These records are held securely and made available to competent authorities upon lawful request.
Sanctions Compliance
Artivanta does not conduct business with individuals or entities subject to international sanctions, including those listed by the EU, UN, OFAC, or other applicable sanctions authorities. Transaction screening against relevant sanctions lists is conducted as part of our payment process through Payabl.
